Vaccinium vitis-idaea 'Red Candy'

Best known for their use in Swedish desserts, lingonberries are actually an attractive fall and winter evergreen plant that birds love if the humans leave the berries on the shrub. Growing at most a foot tall, 'Red Candy' is often considered a ground cover due to its low mounding form, and works well in container planters. White flowers emerge in the spring, resulting in bright red berries in the fall and winter. 'Red Candy' should be planted where it will get at least half a day's sun, but may appreciate some shade on exceptionally hot days.

Culinary Uses: Pies, jams, desserts. Can be eaten fresh but quite tart.
