Tomato 'Health Kick' 4 Inch

Health Kick' tomatoes are touted as being healthier than any other tomato because of its higher lycopene (read very red) content. While it's true that lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that helps combat chronic disease and some environmental pollutants, we feel that any home-grown tomato is going to be healthier than store-bought tomatoes. Home-grown tomatoes are usually allowed to ripen on the vine (store-bought are green), are typically not subject to any questionable chemicals, and they only travel the distance from the garden to the table, not literally hundreds of miles over a period of days or even weeks.
Fruits picked while green never develop the flavor of fully mature tomatoes, and any vitamins or healthful phytonutrients they may have contained will degrade over a very short period of time. That said, a home-grown 'Health Kick' tomato should be a deep red and have a slight give under gentle pressure to test for maximum ripeness. If it does in fact have added health benefits, all the better.  
'Health Kick' is a determinate plant, and is similar to a Roma in that the fruits tend to ripen at the same time, usually within a two-week period.
