Sempervivum 'Chick Charm Sugar Shimmer'

The varieties of Hens and Chicks sometimes seem countless, with variations in colors and color combinations, textures, the shapes of the rosettes, and how prolific they are. 'Sugar Shimmer' happily puts out many chicks, sometimes filling a small pot in one season with tight green rosettes covered in a silvery sheen of cilia. Tips of the leaves may be tinged red, deepening towards purple as the temperatures drop. One could easily fill an eight or ten-inch basket with any number of Hens and Chicks, and no two would be exactly alike. Should you choose to use 'Sugar Shimmer' as a ground cover, be sure the soil drains well, and your Hens and Chicks can spread up to a foot wide. Be aware that when a "hen" blooms in the summer, it will die, but the space it leaves will be filled in by all the chicks.
