Product Description
Two points that gardeners need to remember about stone crop of any kind are 1) they need well-draining soil, and 2) they are drought tolerant only after becoming established, which can take up to a full growing season. That's why we so love using sedums in hanging baskets and container planters - the drainage is vastly better than most garden soils here in the Portland Metro area, and you can put containers within easy reach of the garden hose. 'Black Pearl' sedum is unusual in that it can usually withstand our Pacific NW winters and doesn't die back as do many other varieties. A low-growing, mat-forming succulent, it can spread a foot or more. Though primarily green, 'Black Pearl' can take on an almost purple hue, and provides a wonderful contrast to the late summer blooms. Deer generally avoid sedums, and bees and butterflies love the blooms.
