Sansevieria cylindrica Quart

Young African Spear plants do indeed look like green spears that have been driven into the ground, but when new growth emerges from the base of each spear, it often shoots off to the side, sometimes horizontally. Just as tough as the more common Snake Plant, African Spear plants need deep but infrequent watering, and even less when growing in lower light. As is true of sansevierias, this variety can stay in its same pot for quite a while, and actually likes being somewhat root-bound. Not especially fast growing, 'African Spear' works well in planters with succulents, agaves, and even cacti, adding an unusual texture and height. On its own, this variety can grow to three feet tall and one to two feet wide, and given optimal growing conditions, may even send up stalks of tiny white flowers.
