Sage 'Golden' 4 inch

Believe it or not, there are subtle taste differences between the green, purple and golden sages. Mixed in with stuffing or pork dishes, those differences may be unnoticeable, but when used on their own (have you ever tried quick-fried sage leaves?), it may become an issue. That said, 'Golden' Sage is a rock star as an ornamental, especially in xeriscapes, rock gardens, and those low-water parts of the yard. Textured matte-green and gold leaves form a rounded mound, one to two feet tall and wide, and add a fresh pop of color in borders, container planters, or even baskets. Well-draining soil and lots of sun is vital for a healthy, happy sage plant, and it often makes it through Pacific NW winters unscathed, or with little die-back. Cutting back stems at the end of each season will keep Golden sage looking its best, and the harvested leaves can be dried for cooking.
