Product Description
The botanical name for this evergreen shrub is a mouthful and challenging to spell, but even the common name of Dwarf Yeddo Hawthorn is sometimes misspelled as Yedda Hawthorn. For the record, Yeddo is one form of the old westernized name for Tokyo, for which this evergreen is named, but whatever you call it, this specimen is definitely a winner here in the Pacific NW. Need a compact, dense, low-maintenance broadleaf evergreen for your yard? Look no further than Rhaphiolepis umbellata 'Minor.' White springtime flowers are mildly fragrant and the new growth can emerge with reddish tones. Left to its own devices, Dwarf Yeddo Hawthorn grows slowly into a rounded dark green shrub, three to four feet tall and wide, making it an excellent choice for container planters, hanging baskets, borders, and informal hedges. Drought tolerant once established in the ground, this evergreen is also salt tolerant and thus a great choice for coastal gardens.
