Coining a social media phrase, we were today years old when we discovered that there are indeed benefits to getting German-made terracotta pots. The clays are more finely filtered, other colors of clay (besides the red/orange) are often available, and they typically are high-fired, yielding a more durable product, less likely to freeze and break. We've had 12-inch, planted terracotta pots hanging outside year-round, and they have held up nicely, even during our surprise freezes in late spring.
