Physocarpus opulifolius 'Black Jack' 1 Gallon

Ninebark is one of those deciduous shrubs that may change the minds of gardeners who want only evergreen plants in their yards. 'Black Jack' ninebark is a fairly compact shrub, growing three to four feet tall and wide, with intensely dark purple-black serrated foliage from spring into the fall. Drought-tolerant once established, 'Black Jack' retains its dark coloring best in full sun, making it a good candidate for xeriscapes as well as woodland gardens. Pink flower clusters emerge in late spring to summer that later turn into red fruits that are attractive to birds. Once the leaves drop in the fall, ninebark's exfoliating bark is revealed, adding interest to the winter garden. If pruning is needed (to improve structure or air circulation), do so after ninebark is done blooming, as next year's flowers will bloom on old wood.
