Oregano 'Sicilian' 4 Inch

Sicilian oregano has the classic flavor that one recognizes in Italian cooking, but if you haven't used it fresh before, you may be surprised by its pungency. Standard rule of thumb in recipes is to use three times (!!) the amount of fresh herbs in place of its dried counterpart, but it may be wise to just double it first, taste, then adjust as needed. Oregano is one of the easiest perennial herbs to grow and thrives in well-draining soil with lots of sun. Plant it in the garden or in a pot within reach of the kitchen. Shear it back to about six inches at least once during the growing season to keep the plant soft and dense; otherwise, the stems will get woody. Like most herbs, deer leave it alone but bees love it.
