Oregano 'Hot & Spicy' 4 Inch

Oregano is a widely used herb in many different cultures. One can't imagine Italian dishes without oregano, nor many Mexican or Latino dishes. That said, there are several different varieties of oregano, though all tend to be evergreen perennials, weathering the cold and damp of winter like a champ. 'Hot & Spicy' oregano is exactly that, with an intense flavor and heat that isn't usually found in other varieties of oregano. Use about one-half the amount called for in recipes, then adjust from there. Harvest up to 1/3 of a plant's foliage as needed, and shear back the plant if it gets too leggy. Bees tend to like the small pink flowers, but most gardeners will trim back the foliage just prior to full bloom. Leaves can be stripped off the stems and used fresh or dried. Some chefs recommend chopping the leaves and covering them in ice cube trays with water or oil. Freeze for future use.
