Oregano 'Dark Leaf'

Oregano is often viewed strictly as an herb and thus relegated to the summer herb garden, but it is one of the tougher ones, staying green year-round, and withstanding deer and drought (once established). Dark leaf oregano is pretty enough to plant in xeriscapes and sunny borders, with loads of dainty pink flowers in the summer. From a culinary standpoint, cooks prefer using the leaves before the plant blooms, but bees and other pollinators love them! Pluck leaves as needed for cooking, and don't be afraid to give dark leaf oregano a haircut after it blooms to keep the plant compact.
