Mint 'Julep Spearmint' 4 Inch

Spearmint is such a refreshing herb and so easy to grow, it's a great addition to kitchen gardens. 'Julep Spearmint' conjures up the bourbon-based drink, but it can be used for any dish calling for mint.  Mint generally is not picky about its environment and spreads easily, often overrunning garden plots when planted directly in the ground. Growing mint is containers that can be placed by the kitchen door is an easy way to control mint's spread and is convenient when you need to pluck some fresh mint leaves for a beverage or meal. Shear back the plant by about half when it begins to flower, and use the cuttings fresh or hang in a dark cool place to dry for later use. Mint will die back in the winter, but rebounds with energy once the weather warms up.

Culinary Uses: Used fresh in beverages and salads. May be used fresh or dried in cooked dishes or teas.

Harvest Time: Pick individual leaves as needed, leaving at least a third of the plant to regrow.
