As gardeners soon realize, unglazed terra cotta pots are quite porous, meaning that they absorb water and as a result, tend to change color depending upon the amount of moisture in the clay. This also means they are vulnerable to breakage if frozen when wet (as in winter). Our suggestion is to use these beauties outdoors during the summer or indoors year-round. You'll need a waterproof saucer or protector to place under these pots when gardening indoors, in order to keep surfaces safe.
