Lettuce 'Red Butter' Jumbo Traypack

For years, when iceberg lettuce was the norm, whole individual heads of Butter lettuce, aka Bibb or Boston lettuce, appeared on grocery store shelves in plastic boxes well before that became standard practice for leafy greens. Such treatment suggested that this lettuce was unique, if not in flavor, then in shape. In today's market with a plethora of varieties, Butter lettuce still stands out with a buttery, sweet flavor and characteristic cup-shaped leaves. It's a favorite for using as wraps, and is a noticeable addition to fresh salads and sandwiches. 'Red Butter' lettuce adds another dimension with anti-oxidant rich red leaves. As with all lettuces, 'Red Butter' lettuce grows best in the cooler months and can be planted prior to a region's last frost of spring or before the first fall frost.
