Tender and flavorful, green leaf lettuce will provide a substantial base for fresh salads, whether picked as baby greens or full-sized, ruffled leaves. Consider using mature leaves as wraps for burgers without buns, Asian meat dishes, or in fresh spring rolls. Lettuce is fairly frost tolerant, so it can be planted earlier than the heat-loving veggies, and will appreciate shade in the late afternoon.
