Lettuce 'Gourmet Mix' Traypack

Way better than running to the store to pay five dollars every time you'd like to have a salad with dinner. Plant this mix of lettuces in your raised beds or containers, then pick the leaves as you need them, or shear back the entire head. Rule of thumb is to leave at least a third of the leaves so the head can keep growing. Otherwise, cut the head off about an inch from the ground - the "stub" will send out new baby lettuces. Consider planting lettuce in hanging baskets so they're within easy reach for picking, but out of the way of slugs or other chewing critters. Many varieties of lettuce will bolt when the weather gets too hot, so areas with afternoon shade may prolong your lettuce crop.
