Lettuce Butterhead 'Buttercrunch' Seed Pack

Buttercrunch' is a compact, loose butterhead-type lettuce with large, slightly puckered leaves, and is the perfect size for container planters or in garden borders. Pull off individual outer leaves but leave the rest to continue growing, or cut off the entire head about 2" above ground level and let it regrow. This is a vigorous grower, preferring a bit of shade from the hot afternoon sun. Be sure to water regularly and watch for slugs.

Indoor Start Time: 4 to 6 weeks before your average last frost date

Outdoor Sow Time: 2 to 4 weeks before your average last frost date, and when soil temperature is at least 40°F, ideally 60°–70°F.

Days to Emerge: 5 - 10 days

Special Germination Instructions: Can do successive sowings every 3 weeks until 4 - 6 weeks prior to your average first fall frost date.

Thinning: When ½" tall, thin to 1 every 6"

When to Harvest: Up to half of the individual mature leaves can be harvested, leaving the rest to grow. May also cut off at ground level or if you wish regrowth, cut off 2" above ground.

Additional Information: If soil temp is 80 degrees F or above, seeds will not germinate.
