Lemon Balm 4 Inch

For a combined minty, lemony flavor, consider growing lemon balm in your herb garden this year. Though lemon balm is a member of the mint family, it spreads primarily by self-seeding, not runners. Cutting back the flowers whenever they appear will keep this herb contained and looking beautiful. Growing up to two feet tall and about as wide, lemon balm will most likely reappear after Pacific NW winters unless we have prolonged freezes. Deer tend to avoid it and pollinators love it. Lemon balm is valued by herbalists as an aid for insomnia, digestive issues, and anti-inflammatory properties.

Culinary Uses: Use leaves in salads or added to beverages. Steep fresh leaves for tea. Flavor fades with drying, so best fresh.

Harvest Time: Anytime after plant reaches six inches in height, taking only a third of the leaves.
