The temptation to water kalanchoes is strong because hey, it blooms so it must need lots of water, right? Sorry, but as a succulent, these fleshy leafed beauties prefer dry feet and enjoy well-lighted rooms. The blooms do last for an incredibly long time, but in order to get your kalanchoe to rebloom, it needs indirect light and lots of it. When it comes to water, the surface soil should be bone dry (you can even dig down and feel the soil) before watering it thoroughly, then leave it alone until the next time. Like many succulents, kalanchoes go through a dormancy period in the winter, so the need for water decreases then as well.
