Ipomoea 'Blackie' 4 Inch

One of the first plants that hanging basket gardeners ask for in the spring is the Sweet Potato Vine, and with good reason. 'Blackie' sends out vines of dark, heavily lobed leaves, providing a dramatic contrast to bright summer flowers in hanging baskets and tall container planters that soon cover the pots. This variety keeps its dark good looks in the sun, but will tolerate some shade. Possibly the only drawback to this luxuriant trailer is that it may get too long for container planters that sit on the ground, and when gardeners need to deconstruct the pots/baskets in the fall, they may have trouble removing the large tubers that have grown in the soil. For the record, any tubers that form are usually not very delicious, and should not be eaten if pesticides were used.
