Hedgehog Holly is indeed prickly, with spiny variegated leaves on dense purple stems that can grow to 10 feet tall and about seven feet wide. Use as a focal point in the garden in large containers or in the ground, or use as a privacy screen or hedge. Drought tolerant once established, Hedgehog holly grows best in full sun, providing year-round color and texture. Female plants will develop red berries in the winter, but nursery stock may be male only and thus will not have berries.
