Helleborus x ericsmithii 'Shooting Star'

Though hellebores are considered shade plants, we use them in our fall/winter baskets here in the Portland metro area for "sunny" locations with great success. Thick green leaves stay green year-round, and flowers appear during the darkest time of the year, brightening hanging baskets, container planters, and garden borders. 'Shooting Star' produces rosy pink buds in late fall to early winter that open to white flowers on red stems. As the flowers age, they take on a greenish hue and the pink tones become more distinct. Once the temps warm up, hellebores appreciate some protection from afternoon sun, but do fine in all-day dappled sun.
