Alpine Baby's Breath' is indeed related to the baby's breath used in flower arrangements, but this summer-blooming perennial is a low grower, reaching four to eight inches in height, and spreading up to 20 inches wide. Though technically a perennial, this variety may remain green during mild winters, requiring a bit of clean up in the early spring. Tiny, pink-to-purple veined, white flowers almost cover the dark green foliage from late spring through summer, attracting butterflies. Drought tolerant once established, 'Alpine Baby's Breath' does well in rock gardens and along borders. It will trail beautifully over retaining walls and the edges of container planters and hanging baskets as well. Give this perennial plenty of sun for best results.
