Ficus lyrata

As is true of many houseplants, finding the ideal spot for a Fiddleleaf fig will go a long way in keeping this specimen healthy and happy. "Ideal" involves several factors, starting with the container in which it lives. It's true that Fiddleleaf figs can grow to 10 feet tall (and sometimes more) indoors, but putting a young version in too large a pot may lead to root rot, so increase the pot size by two-inch increments until you reach the maximum size for your particular space. Lots of indirect light is a must for this fig to grow and if it's placed in too dark a location, it will most likely drop leaves. That said, it will also drop leaves if it is underwatered or the humidity is too low. So, position your fig in a well-lit room, water thoroughly when the top one-to-two inches of soil is dry, and mist the leaves periodically, or place the pot in a pebble-filled saucer with water added halfway up the pebbles. Humidifiers are also a good option, especially when the heat kicks on.  
One final note, this big boy tends to get set in its ways, so once it seems to be happy in a particular spot, don't move it.
