The Pineapple Lily was originally bred for the cut-flower market, and when you see the blooms, you'll know why! Little clusters of green leaves top tall stalks of densely formed purple buds that bloom from the bottom up, showing off pink flowers in the summer. As is true of spring bulbs, the Pineapple Lily's showy period is just a few weeks long, and make great cut flowers. If planted in a pot, eucomis can be tucked away in the corner of the garden once the flowers and leaves are spent, to rest until next year's season.
