Dianthus 'Delilah Magenta' Quart

While deadheading flowers is not every gardener's cup of tea, it can be a very meditative experience and will often reward the deadheader with more blooms and a tidier appearance overall. 'Delilah Magenta' dianthus (often called a carnation) is a perennial that will definitely keep on producing more blooms when spent flowers are removed, with magenta red flowers contrasting beautifully against the silvery green foliage. This sun-lover will add a nice pop of color in garden borders or containers, and combines well with other summer flowers. Evergreen in warmer climates, dianthus suffers a bit in our Pacific NW winters, but as long as it has good drainage, should return season after season. A spicy, clove-like fragrance may appeal to humans, but will often deter deer.
