This Jurassic Stegosaurus Holly Fern originates from the Hubei Province in China, grown from spores collected by Dan Hinkley, horticulturalist extraordinaire, and does indeed have a prehistoric look.

For avid gardeners, half the fun of acquiring plants is knowing the backstory to said plants. The spores of this holly fern were collected by Dan Hinkley, a much respected horticulturist from the Pacific NW, at the 6000 foot elevation in China. Tough, evergreen, with thick holly-shaped leaflets, this fern would be right at home in a woodland garden, or lacking that, a shady border or container planter. The prominent spores on the backs of the fronds contribute to the textured (almost reptilian) look of the tops of the leaflets.
