It's always exciting when we get plants new to the nursery, and Siam Tulip is a stunner. Native to Thailand (previously known as Siam), this perennial prefers protection from the afternoon sun when outdoors, or lots of indirect light when living indoors. While it likes consistent moisture during the growing season, it will rot if allowed to sit in water, so well-draining soil is a must. Higher humidity keeps the Siam tulip looking its best. Placing it on a pebbled-filled tray with water barely covering the pebbles usually provides enough moisture in the air.

Like tulips, curcuma goes dormant in the fall. Provide just enough water to keep the soil from drying out completely and store the pot where temps remain above 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

Final note: when grown outdoors, deer apparently don't like Siam tulips and it can be harmful to cats and dogs if ingested.
