It often seems counterintuitive that succulents need to come indoors for the winter, but keep in mind that many are native to very dry, hot climates. This Miniature Pine Tree hales from Africa, and thus needs well-draining soil, a fair amount of sunlight (or grow lights), and infrequent but thorough watering when dry. It can easily grow to a foot tall, usually shedding the bottom needle-like leaves along the way. Stems become somewhat woody, adding to the "pine tree" look. New growth emerges from the base, so tall scraggly stems may be clipped. Don't throw them away, however; new plants can be started from the cuttings.
