Cordyline australis 'Spikes'

Spikes' is an obvious nickname for this cordyline, with its narrow, blade-like leaves that arch upward before draping down. Its an easy centerpiece for planters and hanging baskets that need vertical interest to offset the "fillers" and "spillers" in seasonal baskets. This tender perennial will most likely die in a freeze, but some determined gardeners have managed to winter over cordylines by bringing them indoors or putting them under the eaves when the temperatures drop. Cordylines love the sun, and combine well with summer flowers such as petunias, osteospermums, and calibrachoas.
