Ellwood Lawson Cypress is not especially fast growing, but it can add half a foot a year in height, and may eventually serve as a privacy screen or hedge. In the meantime, consider planting it in a container planter or hanging basket for the first few years, along with complementary evergreens, perennials, and seasonal annuals. This specimen will add vertical interest to a year-round planter, with blue-green foliage that will become more blue in the winter. Once the Ellwood Lawson cypress outgrows the pot (either literally or visually), it can be moved to a more permanent home in the garden as a taller specimen or hedge.
