Cercis canadensis 'Ruby Falls

Eastern Redbuds are a favorite street tree because of their tidy growth habits but even these are too big for some yards. 'Ruby Falls' weeping redbud may be the solution for those wanting a smaller tree for an inner courtyard or a smaller garden. Topping out between and six and eight feet tall, this weeping specimen spreads only five to six feet wide, leaving plenty of room for other companion plants. Lavender-red, sweet pea-like blooms appear on bare wood in early spring, adding a delightful surprise to the garden. One caveat: this variety doesn't like being disturbed once planted, so find its perfect home then leave it alone.
