Basil €˜Sweet Italian 4 Inch

Sweet basil is the flavor and aroma most familiar to the American palate. It is in fact, not the same as Genovese basil, but for most cooks' purposes, they are interchangeable. One difference between these two is the size of the plants themselves. 'Sweet Basil' is a bit bigger than Genovese basil, reaching over two feet tall and up to 18" wide. Both require lots of sun and regular watering and aside from slugs, are usually pest free. As with all basils, pinch the tips to maintain a compact bush, and definitely pinch out flower buds to ensure the best flavor and prolong growing season.

Culinary Uses: Fresh in salads or made into pesto. Fresh leaves can be added to pasta dishes, or other cooked dishes.

Harvest Time: Pluck leaves as needed. Harvest all leaves before first frost.
