Athyrium 'Ghost'

Upright grayish green fronds with maroon midribs form a lovely vase-shape, 24 to 30 inches tall and almost as wide, from spring right up until freeze. 'Ghost' derives its silvery coloring from the Japanese Painted fern and its upright bearing from the Lady Fern (Athyrium filix-femina). Though it can tolerate full shade, the best silver coloring will emerge when given dappled sun or morning sun, afternoon shade. This deciduous specimen will be a standout in the spring to fall garden, planted in large containers, hanging baskets, or intermixed with hostas, bergenia, and flowering summer annuals in shady borders.
