Chinese Wild Ginger is often overlooked as a shade ground cover, and that's a shame. It's heart-shaped green leaves are daubed with silver, brightening shady areas of the garden, and will eventually form a mat dense enough to suppress weeds. Though Chinese Wild Ginger does produce springtime flowers, one rarely sees them because they grow under the foliage. This perennial may ride out Pacific NW winters, but if it gets a bit ragged, new spring growth will soon cover the damaged leaves.
