Good things come in small packages, as this Japanese maple proves. 'Hime Shojo' is an exceptionally dense, twiggy Japanese maple that is more shrub-like in form than it is a tree. Averaging three to five feet in height and width at the 10-year mark, this specimen is well-suited to container planters and as a subject for bonsai. New growth appears a bright red throughout the summer and stands out against the older maroon-colored leaves. Fall brings out the brighter red tones before leaves drop for the winter.
