Japanese maples are popular choices for container planters and limited garden spaces due to their slower growth and smaller size. At the 10-year mark, 'Shaina' often stands only three to four feet tall and wide, making it an ideal patio specimen. Though often red throughout the summer in other parts of the country, the foliage of 'Shaina' here in the Pacific NW emerges deep red, then goes green for the summer. Fall brings out the stunning reds before leaves drop for the winter.
