Acalypha hispida

The Chenille Plant adds amazing color and texture to the summer garden, whether used in hanging baskets, container planters, or in the ground. It has the potential to reach four- to six feet tall and even wider in perfect conditions, but that's not available here in the Pacific NW, and we treat it as an annual. Long racemes of pink to red flowers can reach 18 inches in length and continue throughout the growing season. Deadheading will promote even more blooms. The Chenille plant can be brought indoors and treated as a houseplant. Place in a well-lit room with no direct sun, and mist frequently or invest in a humidifier, as this unusual plant is native to tropical environments.
