If you want to attract hummingbirds to your garden, plant 'Hot Lips' salvia. The red and white flowers bloom prolifically throughout the summer into fall on compact rounded shrubs. The small, fine leaves are fragrant, almost spicy, adding to the overall appeal of this easy-to-grow perennial. Hardy down to 10 degrees, we have found that 'Hot Lips' will often keep blooming right through the winter, provided we don't have unseasonable ice/snow. Don't hesitate to give it a trim in late winter/early spring to keep the shrub dense and tidy.
