Deschampsia flexuosa 'Aurea'

Deschampsia flexuosa's common name is a bit misleading since Crinkled Hair Grass is not a grass, and in spite of its tufted, somewhat wild look, is superior to grasses in many ways. Unlike true grasses, the finely textured, almost fluorescent green foliage is evergreen, adding year-round color and texture to hanging baskets, container planters, and garden borders. Though it handles the sun well, it looks its best with afternoon shade, and is drought-tolerant once established. Purplish plumes emerge in the summer, attracting birds and adding visual interest. Foliage can be cut back in late winter/early spring to clear the way for fresh spring growth.
