Ceanothus 'Lemon Ice'

California lilacs are appreciated for their drought tolerance (once established), year-round presence, and their ability to fill large spaces. 'Lemon Ice' is smaller than some of its cousins but its small ovate, dark green leaves, edged in lime-green, make this four-foot tall evergreen shrub a standout in the garden. Hardy to -10 degrees, this ceanothus will serve well as a foundation shrub or informal hedge with year-round good looks, and springtime blue flowers are a welcome bonus. Grow this sun-lover in a container planter for a year or two, then move it out into the garden where it can reach its full potential.
